FSCD Respite & Child Support in Alberta

Every parent of a child with a disability needs a break, and every child deserves someone who is good company while they get it.

Avelora Life provides family-directed, non-medical support for children and youth with disabilities across Alberta. Support is planned around the child’s routines, interests, communication and comfort, and around what your family wants, including an FSCD agreement where one applies.

Support shaped around the child and family

Dependable support that respects your child

Respite is not about stepping away from your child. It is about having someone steady and kind in the room, so you can sleep, work, look after siblings or simply breathe. Support may include respite, safe activities, routine help, companionship, help with transitions, skill practice and meaningful participation at home or in the community.

The goal is not to replace family relationships or clinical services. It is dependable, practical support that respects the child’s dignity and follows your lead on what works best for them.

What support can include

How we can support your child and family

Every child is different, so we start with who yours is.

In-home or community respite

Planned time with your child at home or out in the community, so you can rest or get things done.

Help following familiar routines

Keeping mealtimes, bedtimes and the school-day rhythm as steady as your child needs.

Safe recreational and social activities

Games, crafts, play and outings chosen around your child’s interests and comfort.

Support through transitions

Help moving between activities, places or people, at the pace your child is comfortable with.

Community outings

Trips to the park, library or pool, planned with you and adjusted to how your child is doing that day.

Confidence and independence

Small, everyday chances to try things and build skills, such as helping with a snack or choosing an activity.
